We are making enjoyable clothes made of Japanese kimono fabrics. 


My first remake is when I made an underwear to a friend of mine, who got sick in bed. I made it from a red kimono fabric I coincidentally had at that.

In Tohoku (Northeast) area of Japan, people believe that wearing a red underwear in your 60th birthday helps you keep your body strong so that you don’t need help for toilet even you get older. I made the underwear with my wish that he will get better.

The underwear fit him and he liked the underwear so much. Finally he ordered extra ones paying money.

Fortunately, many of my neighbors offered me to give old kimonos so that I could use for remake. I came up with ideas I wanted to make clothes of them because the fabrics of kimono were so comfortable. That’s how I s started to make kimono into clothes.

As I started making clothes, I fell in love with the colorfulness and patterns of the fabrics. I made some to myself, to my family, and to my friends one by one. They enjoyed the e clothes I made and wore it with good care. That made me so happy and drove me to make more.

In the meantime, I have gotten to know that the proteins in our skin have a function to tell colors just like our eyes.

And I also found that the soft textile of any kinds of kimono fabrics like silk, cotton, and wool, would give us good energy.


So I came up with an idea of helping people with better health by making kimono-fabric-made outfits.

As I had learnt about the flow of Ki energy, we apply several wisdoms in Japanese traditional outfits to our works, such as migi-mae (right side over the left at the front) style collar or broad belt to support your waist.


Now I have several supporters to do kimono remake together. We are running this Chihaya brand as a

日本の着物生地を使い、楽しさが溢れる洋服を作っています。
私が着物をリメイクし始めたきっかけは
たまたまいただいた赤い絹の着物地があり、それを使って、病に倒れた友人に下着を作ってあげたのがきっかけでした。
日本の東北地方では、６０歳の誕生日に赤いパンツをはいたなら、シモの世話にはならないという言い伝えがありますので、友人に健康に対するポジティブなイメージを贈りたかったのです。 
そうしたところ、友人は心地よくはけるので、もっと作って欲しいと商品として注文してくれました。
そしてまた、私の回りは、着物をリメイクするならあげるよという方がとても多かったので、こんなにそばに心地よい布があったら、これを使って服を作りたい！
そんなことでに洋服づくりへと発展してきました。


洋服を作り始めると、着物の柄やカラフルな色合いに心躍る思いで、次々に自分の服、家族の服、友人の服と作るようになり 
また、それを着てくれた人が、とても喜んで大切に着てくれることがとても嬉しくて、たくさん作りました。

服を作るようになってから知ったのですが、皮膚のタンパク質には色を識別する目の様な機能が備わっているそうです。
また着物地の持つ織の揺らぎ感は、シルクや木綿、ウールなどの質の違いはあっても、体に心地よい波動を与えてくれることに気づいてきました。
そんなタイミングで次のような言葉にも出会いました。

草根木皮　これ小薬
鍼灸　これ中薬
飲食衣服　これ大薬
身を修め心を治める　これ薬源

この中国の古い経典である書経に書かれている言葉を知り、衣服の持つ機能が体に与える影響を再認識しました。

これらのことで、和布で服を作ったなら、
みんなの健康作りに役立つことができると確信しました。

 学んでいた氣の流れも応用して、身ごろを右前に合わせたり、腰をしっかりと帯で整えるなど、リラックスできる和服の知恵も、洋服づくりに取り入れています。 
今では着物リメイクの仲間にも恵まれ、チームで『ちはや』の服を作っています。
そんな『ちはや』のコンセプトは おしゃれなデザインの中にも着心地のよさを忘れないことです。
